First Day of School

Yes, it is still August, and it is still summer. What ever happen to summer break? A thing of the past, no doubt. The kids went to bed at 7:30 the night before, with little persuasion, anxious to get a good start. Up at 6am smack dab in the morning, bustling in their bedrooms; beds made, PJ's put away, dressed, hair slicked down, and setting the table, with none other then cold cereal. They even loaded their empty lunch bag into their backpacks, which I had to retrieve with difficulty. They did all this by 6:10 am, a world record. I told them to go back to sleep for another hour, at least. You would think it is Christmas morning in Iowa. I bet that they hardly slept a wink last night.

After school

Aaryn is deflated, he has homework on his first day of school, from his "jolly" teacher, as he describes her. Izaak goes to bed right after dinner with a stomach ache.

Adryann disappears and I look everywhere for her twice. Next I check the corners and crevices and way down under the bunk beds invisible unless parallel with the floor, she is curled up on the floor sleeping. Heart attack restored to resting pulse.
